P for procrastinator

I had this weird dream last night…kinda like the ones I use to have in college where I’d wake up and either think I have missed a big exam or didn’t study for it at all.  In this case, it’s the day of the tri and I haven’t prepared at all – no training, no gear, no nothin’. 

Now, I’m a procrastinator at heart and usually do my best work under pressure, but I’m thinking that my normal fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants mantra is not going to work too well in this case.

Good thing is, I do have cardio and strength training on my side.  Since last January, I’ve been attending the boot camp and kick boxing classes at the YMCA.  I usually go at least 3 times a week.  I also started going to a Body Conditioning class which is really great and works muscles you didn’t even know you had.

My biggest challenge will be the swimming (runs in the family, right Hawk?).  I got the basics, but have to work on the distance.   My husband was the swimmer in his family and we’re going to start with the laps this week.

After work I hit the gym for a 34 minute bike ride (12+ miles). The first bike ride since winter befell us. It felt so incredibly effortless. How surprised was I! I was going approximately 93-103 RPMs which is pretty darn good for me. I kept heart rate around 147-152. I’m going to try it again tomorrow.

2 laps side stroke
4 laps back stroke
4 laps flip flop
3 laps front crawl

Total = 22 laps (1/2 mile) in approx 45 minutes

falling off the wagon

it’s not been a great weekend for being fit. i played racquetball on Saturday morning and then did squat. my body is a little achy and i’m just plain tired. plus i haven’t been eating well. i always think that i am but i’m not. i don’t eat bad things but moderation is not my best virtue. sigh. it’s never too late to recommit. i’ll be in the pool tomorrow morning.
